Student Scholarships

The NEACSM provides many opportunities to support professional development and

student engagement and achievement!

  • The New Investigator Award invests in the future of sports medicine and exercise science by offering a defined research underwriting opportunity to our junior professional members. The call for applications comes out in June and closes in early August. The award is $2,500 and winners must be current NEACSM members. 

  • The Honor Award recognizes a professional member who has provided significant contributions to both NEACSM and the field of exercise science. It is the highest honor bestowed by the chapter. Nominations are requested in May and are due by early July. 

  • The Undergraduate Research Experience Grants (2) highlight professional and academic excellence in undergraduate students attending non-R1: Doctoral University institutions in the New England states. They can be used to help fund research or offset expenses associated with presenting the research at an NEACSM Annual Fall Conference. The call for applications comes out in late January and closes in late March. The grants are $1,000 each and winners must be current NEACSM members.

  • NEACSM Scholarships celebrate student achievement in a variety of ways. The call for applications comes out in April and closes in late June. All scholarships are $1,000 each and winners must be current NEACSM members.

    • ​The Robert S. Axtell Undergraduate Scholarship Award supports and encourages professional involvement and academic excellence in undergraduate students in the New England region.

    • The Mark Connolly Memorial Masters Scholarship Award supports and encourages professional involvement and academic excellence in Masters students in the New England region. 

    • The Linda Pescatello Doctoral Scholarship Award supports and encourages professional development and academic excellence in Doctoral students in the New England region.

    • The Lawrence E. Armstrong Academic Excellence Award supports and encourages professional development and academic excellence in students from racially marginalized groups in the New England region.

    • The Donna Murphy Service Award recognizes an outstanding student who demonstrates extraordinary and sustained service to a genuine and worthy cause.

  • Student Investigator Awards (3) ​acknowledge the top competitors in Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral Free Communications abstracts at the annual fall conference. The call for abstract submissions goes out in March, closes in September, and are judged and awarded in October at the fall conference. The prizes are $500 each and winners must be NEACSM members.

    • ​The President's Cup is awarded to the top graduate student competitor in the Free Communications abstracts at the annual fall conference. The call for abstract submissions goes out in March, closes in September, and are judged and awarded in October at the fall conference. The prize is $1,200 and the winner must be an NEACSM member.
